I have many loves. I love drinking coffee and sharing a piece of cheese cake with my wife at 1 AM in the morning in a side walk café in downtown New York City after just seeing a great comedy show and laughing my butt off.
The crashing of the ocean into the shore of the barrier islands as I am stretched out on the beach with a lighthouse in the background thinking about the people who have sailed these waters.
Walking into some hole in the wall juke joint listening to great jazz from some guy I have never heard of while eating sea food and sipping on a glass of wine and feeling all artsy.
And I definitely love spending time in the mountains.
Some how, some where along the way, I developed the habit of waking up on any given Sunday morning and making the decision to skip church and opting to drive to the mountains instead. I usually do this two or three time a year. After making such a decision one Sunday, a friend called to interrupt my evening football watching and asked why I wasn’t at church that morning. I told him. He said, “God will get you for that.” With out hesitating I said, “I feel closer to God in the mountains than I do sitting in church.” Unfortunately that unplanned statement is all to true. I find it hard to believe someone can view the majesty of the mountains and not believe in intelligent design. Through the years I have passed my appreciation of the mountains and the Sunday excursions along to my children. I hope you enjoy the photos.
